Joanne Kathleen Rowling, es la autora de uno de los mayores fenómenos literarios de la historia. Las aventuras del héroe infantil Harry Potter, que ella creó, consiguieron batir todos los récords de ventas en su género. J. K. Rowling nació el 31 de julio de 1965 en una pequeña localidad británica, desde pequeña era aficionada a leer novelas y durante sus épocas de estudiante solía contar largas historias a sus amigos durante el recreo. En su adolescencia escribió mucho, pero nunca se atrevió a mostrar sus manuscritos a nadie.
En 1992 contrajo matrimonio y un año más tarde tuvo una hija, desafortunadamente su matrimonio no prosperó y pronto acabó en divorcio. Prácticamente desconocida y con problemas económicos vivía en una modesta pensión como desempleada, sus problemas económicos eran sumamente graves al extremo de que, según palabras de la propia escritora, “hubo días en que si bien mi hija comía, yo no”.
A pesar de las dificultades ella siguió escribiendo y una vez que termino la primera novela de Harry Potter recorrió sin éxito editoriales de prestigio, sin lograr que publicaran su escrito, pero siguió insistiendo y en 1997 consiguió por fin que la prestigiosa firma británica Bloomsbury publicara su libro. El extraordinario éxito que tuvo superó ampliamente todas las expectativas de las editoriales. Hoy es una escritora famosa y millonaria que ocupa el tercer lugar de ventas en su país.
